Make the Most of Earth Day with a Month of Programming!
We're just a few weeks in to 2024, but it's time to start planning for Earth Day. This year, the theme for the event is Earth Day 2024: Planet vs. Plastics.
The goal is unite businesses, governments, individuals, and nonprofits around the unwavering commitment to call for the end of plastics for the sake of human and planetary health. EARTHDAY.ORG, the global organizer of the event, is demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040.
The organization plans to organize around four pillars this year:
Promoting public awareness of the damage done by plastic to animal, biodiversity, and human health as well as demanding more research into the implications of plastic on one's health;
Phasing out all single-use plastics;
Demanding policies to end fast fashion and the vast amount of plastic it produces and uses; and
Investing in innovative technologies and materials to build a plastic-free world.
If you're ready to host an event that supports the environment, our team can help you build the perfect plan. We offer:
Offsite volunteering options.We find a natural space where your team can complete a give back. More than your average trash collection, we help volunteers build garden beds and picnic tables. They can also paint murals and assist with other creative projects. Lunches and snacks included!
Onsite volunteering options. Invite your colleagues to support the environment without leaving the office. Volunteers can assemble bee hotels or outdoor activity kits for local Boys & Girls Clubs or other nonprofits.
Virtual options. Gather your volunteers' shipping addresses and join via video conference for an at-home volunteer program. Options include creating water-testing kits for children as well as building birdhouses that can be used by the volunteers in their own yards. These items can also be given to local nonprofits.
Upcycling Project: Plarn
This year as part of our commitment to helping single-use plastics have a longer life, we have also introduced a program that allows individuals to refurbish these items. Individuals are invited to collect these bags and crochet them into sleeping mats for their unhoused neighbors.
Plarn (plastic + yarn) sleeping mats are lightweight and easy to carry. They also provide a barrier between the wet ground and other bedding. In general, bugs do not like these mats, which give them longevity. Should they become dirty, they are easy to hose off as well.
As a benefit to the planet, each plarn sleeping mat keeps between 500 and 700 plastic bags out of landfills.
Contact our business development team today to schedule a meeting to discuss these options.
