Need
Digitas, a global marketing and technology agency that transforms businesses for the digital age has a large Chicago office that wanted to invest in its local community. The team’s goal was to create a fun, unique engagement that all employees could participate in and leveraged their creative spirit. The company has long supported schools and wanted to continue that theme into the community event.
Approach
Give To Get worked with the Chicago Public Schools to find a school that could use the help of a few hundred employees. We settled on Castellanos Elementary, which was merging with another school changing its name to Cardenas Elementary. They needed a whole new look and identity for students the following Fall. Summer was about to start, so the volunteers would have access to the entire school for a day. After many weeks of preparation on and off site, Give To Get hired teachers and other school staff to supplement our project leaders and planned for a full day of activities for Digitas.
Impact
The results were more than the school or Digitas could expect. Prior to the day, the creative team designed a new logo and brand-look for the school. On the day, more than 350 employees from showed up to paint 35 classrooms, create a professional-looking stage and drama practice area, plant 15 new bushes and shrubs at the entrance, add the new logo and mascots to throughout the hallways and gymnasium and, finally, refurbished the playground equipment outside. 1,800 hours of work in a single day that made two schools become one.
